Because a vision softly creeping left its seeds while I was sleeping.

and the vision that was planted in my brain still remains

and touched the sound of silence.

뒤척이며 꾸던 꿈속에서 난 가로등 불빛아래 좁은 조약돌길을 홀로 걸었어.

추위와 음습한 기운에 내가 옷깃을 세웠을 때

어둠을 가르는 네온불빛 섬광이 내 눈을 찔렀고 그 침묵속의 소리를 일깨워 놓았어.

And in the naked light, I saw ten thousand people, maybe more,

people talking without speaking,

people hearing without listening,

people writing songs that voices never share

and no one dare disturb the sound of silence.

그 눈부신 불빛 속에서 나는 수도 없이 많은 사람들이 보였어.

진심은 담지 않은 채 마음에도 없는 말만 지껄이는 사람들을,

관심도 없이 흘려듣기만 하는 사람들을,

마음들이 갈라져 함께하지 못하는 노래를 만드는 이들을,

그 누구도 감히 그 침묵의 소리를 어쩌지는 못했어.

"Fools" said I, "You do not know silence like a cancer grows.

Hear my words that I might teach you.

Take my arms that I might reach you."

But my words like silent raindrops fell echoed in the wells of silence.

“바보들” 난 말했어. “암 덩어리 같은 침묵이 자라고 있음을 모르시는군요.
